This TCD variant incorporates the latest developments to perfect the Superlock with reduced weight and improved lubrication; it represents a finely tuned evolution of the Superlock, with slightly less emphasis on cost savings.
- What kind of limited-slip differential is this?
It is a plate-type limited-slip differential, which is broadly comparable to the ZF limited-slip differentials found, for example, in the BMW M3, M4 GT4, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, or Nissan GT-R Nismo.
- Why is this differential more expensive than most other limited-slip differentials?
This is a brand-new limited-slip differential, not a remanufactured unit. It incorporates the best technologies and materials, eliminating the drawbacks of a traditional limited-slip differential. However, this high-end technology comes at a price.
- Is it comparable to a Quaife or other Torsen differentials?
Partially. This limited-slip differential is also maintenance-free. However, it offers much greater adjustability; the differential locks even when one wheel is off the ground (unlike a Quaife) and also locks during braking/deceleration. In addition, lock-up of up to 100% is possible, so more power can be transferred to the road surface. You’ll also notice significantly improved stability in your car with an OS Giken, whereas with a Quaife you might occasionally be in for an unpleasant surprise. Furthermore, the Superlock is highly suitable for drifting, whereas a Quaife or other Torsen systems are significantly less so
- What is OS Giken?
OS Giken is a high-tech company, originally from Japan, that specializes in engine tuning and supplies, among other things, high-quality clutches, differentials, and transmissions. It is very well known in Asia and America; in Europe, it is primarily known for Asian brands such as Nissan.
- Why this limited-slip differential?
The design can handle more power
Locking action up to 100%, but without the drawbacks typically associated with 100% locking
No maintenance required; the plates show virtually no wear. There are racing teams that have been using this diff for 10 years without any issues and have only changed the oil.
Adjustable lock-up during acceleration and deceleration
Thanks to the ideal tuning and 100% lock, you can expect better lap times or more controllable drifts. The differential can also be adjusted so that it’s perfectly suitable for driving on public roads. When driving slowly, it will offer the advantages of an open differential, and when accelerating, it will provide the grip of a racing limited-slip differential.
Central springs / negative preload (yellow box in the diagram)
The main difference lies in the central springs, which actually pull the pressure plates (which apply pressure to the locking plates) TOWARD each other. These springs essentially ensure that there is minimal locking action during slow driving, parking, or (braking) steering. During acceleration, this spring force
will still be overcome, and the differential will lock.
The differential has been tested by professional teams around the world in rallying, racing, and drifting.
An OS Giken limited-slip differential guarantees better stability and traction for any type of car—rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive. Whether the engine is rear-, front-, or mid-mounted, we’ll help you determine the right configuration.
