General information about flywheels:

It is a widespread misconception that a larger/heavier flywheel is used to give the engine more torque, and that torque will decrease with a lighter flywheel. This is NOT the case. Heavy flywheels are used solely to make it easier to engage the clutch so that even Grandma can drive off without stalling—nothing more, nothing less. Once the car is rolling, a heavy flywheel becomes completely unnecessary. By that point, the drivetrain and the car’s weight already have so much momentum that a heavy flywheel doesn’t add much to it. Extra weight, especially on the crankshaft, actually slows down the car’s acceleration. So if you don’t plan on driving like a grandma, a lightweight flywheel offers nothing but advantages. In our experience, engine response is much better, and the car accelerates a lot faster!
