This article concerns the overhaul of the LSD part of an M-performance lsd, and therefore not the supply of a complete differential with lsd.
Over time and use, wear will occur on the M-performance lsd and it will gradually lose its locking ability. With this you can continue driving, but the diff will start to act more and more like an open differential.
To solve this, we can overhaul this lsd. We replace all friction plates and adjust them to original BMW-performance properties.
It can also be a good time to perform some upgrades. Our experience is that an upgrade on this LSD can provide a more durable, longer-lasting LSD. And a LSD that gives more grip and feedback on the road and track.
Standard oem specification is 35%.
- Upgrade 1 (40%) : Pre-load. A higher base value of the lock action reduces wear, maintains the lock action longer and prevents regression to open differential effect.
- Upgrade 2 (50%) : Modified pressures for a boost to 50% locking action for more grip, control and durability.
- Upgrade 3 (60%): Modified pressure pieces and more lock plates for a boost to 60% lock operation for more grip, control and durability and a setup similar to how Drexler would provide a lock for these cars.
All of these upgrade variants are made for street and track use and tuned so that they do not generate grinding or other noises in the corners and will not cause additional understeer. Except for the price, pretty much only advantages with no disadvantages.
