BMW S55 engines are known to reach high oil temperatures. In normal to heavy use of the car this is around 120 °C. When driving really hard the temperature goes even over this. This may cause the ECU to limit engine power. To prevent this, the Mosselman Oil Thermostat has been developed. Instead of opening at 105 °C, the Mosselman Oil Thermostat already opens at 85 °C. This results in an operational oil temperature that is approximately 20 °C* lower than with the OEM thermostat.

The Mosselman Oil Thermostat is "plug-and-play" and made from a solid block of high quality aluminum in our own factory. It features a real thermostat which means the oil still has the same warm-up time as the standard oil thermostat.
Installing the Mosselman Oil Thermostat ensures a lower oil temperature resulting in more stable performance, but most importantly this ensures the quality of the engine. A highly recommended upgrade for the N54, N55 and S55 engines, especially when tuned.
The Thermostat Installation kit prevents the thermostat from leaking and we recommend using this kit when installing the thermostat.
