Expert's advice:
The Crank Hub is a known concern with the BMW M2 Competition, M3 and M4. The S55 engines from the F8x series are known for the fact that the original crank hub can twist (the crank hub is the connection between the crankshaft and the distribution chain). If the crank hub twists then the timing is no longer correct causing the car to go into an emergency run. In some cases, twisting can lead to serious engine damage. Twisting of the crank hub can happen both standard and tuned and is mainly caused by hard knocks from the gearbox.
To prevent this problem, we have developed the Mosselman S55 Crank Hub Upgrade. This crank hub has a "locked pin design" where the distribution sprocket is fixed to the crank hub. This offers a huge improvement in terms of engine safety, so you can enjoy the power of your BMW M2 Competition, M3 or M4 without worry. The Mosselman S55 Crank Hub we recommend anyway for Stage 2+ tuned S55 engines but can also be performed preventively on original BMWs.
